Foton Timelapse & Melt Pool
One of the most common misconceptions about Foton Pearled Candles is that after a few hours, the pearls completely melt over and they'll look just like regular candles, losing all the benefits of quick refreshing, self-extinguishing, etc.Â
It's true that Foton candle pearls melt around the wick, BUT...
If you follow our recommendations for minimum container size, the melt pool should never reach the container edge.
Wait, what? Isn't that backwards from regular candles where you need to make sure the melt pool gets to the edge to get it to burn right without tunneling?Â
Yes, it's different from regular candles as are many things about Foton Pearled Candles - we're here to turn the candle world upside down.
Here's a video that shows what Foton Candles look like after hours of burning.Â
But why is there a minimum container size for Foton pearls? There are a few reasons.
1. Fire safety. For sustainability, we encourage you to refill your old candle jars and repurpose various containers into candles, containers which may or may not be able to handle the heat of a burning candle. By ensuring the container is big enough, the melt pool will never reach the container edge, which prevents the container from heating up or getting damaged in any way from the melting pearls.Â
2. Easy refreshing. When the container is large enough, the melting pearls will never reach the edge. This means the candle never melts against the container so you easily remove the used part without anything sticking. This way you could easily make your candle look brand new again for each use, or transfer your candle pearls from one container to another after use.Â
What containers are safe to use for Foton Candles?Â
Normally, only fireproof containers such as metal, ceramic, or tempered glass are safe to use for candles. This is still the recommendation for Foton Pearled Candles as an added precaution. However, if you follow the minimum container size requirement, other containers can also safely be used. The main consideration for safe containers to use for Foton Pearled Candles is their size. Â
We recommend a minimum container size of 4-inch width at it's narrowest part for a single-wick candle. This is to ensure at least 2 inches of pearls around each wick, which should be enough to keep the melt pool from getting all the way to the container.
We also recommend keeping some space (filled with candle pearls) between the bottom of the wick and the container, which will prevent the bottom of the container to heat up once the flame reaches the end of the wick. This way the wick eventually falls over and self-extinguishes for safety once it runs out. Â
As always, we still recommend keeping an eye on all burning candles and touch the container occasionally to ensure it's not heating up excessively during use.Â
